A while ago, I was looking for a good compressor / limiter plugin that I could use while streaming to maintain the level of the music within a certain range. I know compressors are frowned upon by music aficionados and purists, but in a thumping live show scenario, it’s often better to keep the volume quite consistent to keep the audience engaged.
The plugin should ideally be free, must be VST, be simple to use, have a low CPU impact, and above all, sound GREAT.
To quote from their page:
“LoudMax is a Look-Ahead Brickwall Loudness Maximizer Plugin with a clean transparent sound. It is designed to retain the original character of the music as much as possible even at high compression levels.”
I can’t say enough great things about this VST plugin. Firstly, it’s FREE, you can donate to the author if you want to via his page. It works well with the effects setup in Virtual DJ 8, it’s easy to control via the effects controls in VDJ 8 since there are only two controls to the plugin (output level, and compression threshold level), I can control it direct from my DJ controller, you don’t need the GUI displayed (but it’s there if you want it), and the CPU overhead is indeed very low.
Download it FREE (did I mention it’s free?) for 32-bit and 64-bit, systems in GUI and GUI-less flavours here:
